Accommodation

The majority of the properties used by the programme to rehouse people have been provided by Social Housing providers.

The majority of the housing has been provided by members of the Greater Manchester Housing Providers (GMHP (Link)) partnership, who have supported the partnership since the original bid discussions and have backed the GMHF programme with accommodation since April 2019.

In total they have provided over 500 property offers in the last five years.

172 people have now been housed over 2 years and of these 113 people have been in a home for more than 3 years.

We have also explored the use of Private Rented Sector (PRS) accommodation, how ever there are many difficulties around affordability and access for the people that we work with.

We are hoping that the recent unfreezing of the Local Housing Allowance rate so that they return to the historic 30% of the rental market rates will increase the amount of accommodation that is affordable for people on benefit.

There are still many barriers for those who have experience homelessness as they are unlike to be able to afford deposits or to be able to present references from previous landlord.

At the end of April 2024 the GMHF partnership and its housing provider celebrated the 400th person moving into a home of their own.
