A very handy service

Updated: Feb 3, 2021

Everybody needs a little help and our handyman service embodies everything the pilot is about.

In partnership with the pilot’s accountable body Great Places, we have been able to offer a little extra help about the house to our tenants.

This is offered by Moffat & Riley, a Great Places contractor on the organisation's Investment Framework. Moffat & Riley agreed to provide this enhanced level of support as a Social Value initiative.

In this case, contractor Moffat & Riley who install kitchens and bathrooms across Great Places neighbourhoods and developments, kindly agreed to deliver a handyperson service to GMHF tenants.

The service is designed to help GMHF tenants to carry out practical tasks around their home that fall outside of their landlord’s repairs services.

The handyman service is about helping a person on the pilot do the small jobs around their property that normally fall to tenants, for example:

  • Putting up curtain poles or blinds

  • Assembling furniture

  • Putting up shelves

  • Changing light fitting/shades

  • Putting up pictures

  • Small repairs (filling holes in walls, rehanging doors, fixing internal locks).

And the service is being put to great use with a couple of tenants having a bit of work done on their home, most recently a mirror being put up and another tenant wanted some blinds fitted.

This service is allowing tenants to make their house into a home by doing the little jobs that make a world of difference so thank you to Great Places and Moffat & Riley for their help.

Andy Riley, Director at M&R, said: “It is a pleasure to work alongside the GMHF team and their customers. At Moffat & Riley, we are proud to go above and beyond what is necessary to support this worthy cause.”

Stephanie Cameron, Social Value Specialist, said: “I am absolutely thrilled that social value has created a meaningful partnership between two great organisations. Thanks to Moffat & Riley, GMHF customers can make their house a home from the early stages of their tenancy."
